Q. What does a genetic methylation test tell you?

A genetic methylation test offers data on potential vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Here is a list of what a methylation DNA test will show you;

Q. Should I have any other tests alongside the genetic methylation DNA test?

We offer a huge range of testing so when a member of our genetics team is assigned to review your results they may feel you would benefit from other specific testing such as genetic aging testing, hormones (testosterone / estrogen, cortisol , thyroid levels etc), microbiome, food intolerance , amino acids & homocysteine, mould / toxin testing tec. If any additional testing is required, this will be advised in your Zoom call / written report.

Please note if you have ordered / would like to order - the add on methylation vitamin blood test we will review your DNA results in conjunction with your blood test results to provide you with an accurate review and supplement list. Matching vitamin blood test (UK patients over 18 only) including nurse to your home to take bloods. The benefits of having a blood test and a DNA test at the same time is that we can get your supplement doses exactly correct for your current health.

Q. What happens after I order the genetic methylation test?

You will be asked to fill out a patient form at checkout which will give us more information on your symptoms, current medications and supplement intake to allow us to tailor your protocol to you personally. If you would prefer not to provide this information just write N/A. Ordering as a gift? We require name and gender but other patient details can be marked as N/A.

Q. How do you support me with my genetic methylation results?

The new Ultimate DNA methylation test results format is easy to read with nutritional support included in the lab test so you can choose just the lab results with no support if you prefer.

In ADDITION to your lab results we provide the following methylation support options which are INCLUDED in the package prices;

A) Follow up personalised written report produced by our clinical team. Our team will review your results alongside the patient information you have provided us with and highlight dietary, lifestyle and biohacking advice plus links to a personalised supplement protocol, including specific doses and any further testing required. This document is personalised to you and is 4-5 pages long depending on your results.

B) Follow up 45-minute video call to discuss your results and answer any questions you have. Once the lab has completed your DNA results you will be sent these via email with a link to book a time and day online. We have excellent zoom appointment availability with appointment slots usually available next day. You will also then be given the option to upgrade your 45-minute call to a 60-minute call for an additional £30 if you wish. During the call your practitioner will explain the results in more detail and what they mean for you. You can ask questions and ask the practitioner to focus on the genes that affect your specific health goals if you wish. After your call you are sent a personalised list of supplements & the dose your practitioner advises with links to purchase from our supplements store. This is for your convenience. You are of course welcome to purchase supplements elsewhere. Zoom calls are recorded (unless you request otherwise) and you are sent a link to download your video after your call so you can refer back to this for years to come as a reminder. Please note if the patient is under 18, we require a parent or guardian to be present on the call.

C) Both Zoom call and written report with personalised next steps (Zoom call is first and written report follows). Please note the written report is longer following the Zoom call (6-8 pages) so we can address points raised in your call.

Q. When will I get my results and personalised genetic methylation test interpretation?

Once you have ordered via our website you will receive an email notification when your kit has been shipped to you via FedEx with a tracking number. Please allow 2-3 working days for your kit to arrive in UK. You can then freepost your sample back to the lab via Royal Mail 1st class (for UK). Prepaid stamped return envelopes are also included for USA, Australia & Canada. All other international orders are NOT freepost returns so you will need to use the addressed envelope and arrange courier back to the labs. Once you have sent back your sample we will email you to let you know that it has been safely received at the lab and your genotyping has started. Results are then ready in 3 weeks and are emailed to you along with either the link to book your zoom call or your written report. You will not hear from us during the time your sample is being processed unless there is an issue with your sample. Please note that we will email lab results to the email address provided at checkout. If you need to change this information it is your responsibility to contact info@mybodyfabulous.co.uk to request results are sent to an alternative email address.

As an additional extra, if you select to order a printed copy of your results you will receive a personalised A4 size, glossy, colour printed brochure posted to you approximately 2 weeks after your PDF is sent to you.

Q. How do I take a genetic methylation test?

How do you test for methylation in the UK? The test is a simple, non-invasive oral sample (cheek swab). The only requirement is to abstain from eating, brushing teeth, chewing gum, drinking or smoking for at least 30 minutes before testing. Any lipstick or lip balm should be wiped clean before providing the sample. There are no special storage or transport requirements and you can return any day of the week. You can take this test at any time of day, there is no need to stop taking medications or supplements prior to taking your sample. As long as cheek swabs are stored in the dry pouch with the desiccant that is provided with the buccal swab kit, samples remain viable for up to 6 months.

Q. I live overseas, can I get this genetic methylation test kit shipped to me?

Orders OUTSIDE UK, USA, AUSTRALIA & CANADA - Yes, we can ship this test all over the world (with the exception of China, India, Mexico, Costa Rica, Iran, Lebanon and Russia). Please select your country at checkout. We use FedEx to deliver our kits, tracking is provided and deliveries usually arrive in 1-4 working days depending on the destination. The test kits are declared as '$2 per kit value' and usually (98% of the time) do not require any customs import fees. If you are contacted by customs, you should declare the package value as being $2 per test kit which will match the official lab document for a cotton bud swab and avoid any charges. We can provide you with a copy of the commercial invoice, if required just email info@mybodyfabulous.co.uk. We provide approved packaging for the return of the sample, but OUTSIDE UK, USA, AUSTRALIA & CANADA you are responsible for arranging and paying for return postage. All lab reports are provided in English.

Q. I live in UK, USA, Canada, Australia but want to return my sample via courier - can I do this?

The return package provided for these countries has prepaid postage affixed on it so if you live in the UK, USA, Australia or Canada you can simply pop your sample into any postbox for free returns. We do recognise that some patients prefer to send samples via courier for peace of mind. If you choose this option, you will need to pay for return courier fees. We provide return customs paperwork to support you but if you require assistance completing commercial invoices or customs paperwork please do contact info@mybodyfabulous.co.uk

Q. How does your test differ from The 10x Gary Brecka methylation DNA test?

Our testing is conducted via the same method as the Gary Brecka methylation test, i.e cheek swab DNA extraction. It’s just a simple wand to wipe on the inside of your cheeks. The Gary Brecka methylation test covers the main 5 methylation genes COMT, AHCY, MTRR, MTR, MTHFR. We offer exactly the same methylation genetic testing as the 10X Gary Brecka methylation test but ours includes these top 5 genes plus 73 others to give you information on other nutrients requirements such as zinc, manganese and choline. We will analyse each gene mutation for you and give you an easy to read, personalised report on supplements and dietary changes to support your body.

Q. What is a genetic methylation test and what will I learn from a methylation DNA test?

What is Methylation? When you consume nutrients, you consume a lot of raw material that must be converted into a form the body can use. How does that raw material turn into hormones, neurons, and more? The process is called methylation. Your DNA is set at birth and determines how your genes work. Q. Is it worth getting a genetic methylation test?

Q. Should I get my children a genetic methylation DNA test or will they have the same genes as me?

The methylation DNA test is a simple, non-invasive cheek swab, suitable for any age. Every human has a slightly different genetic makeup. We inherit our gene variants from both parents so although you may have similar genes to your child you will not have identical gene mutations. Our genes are the same from the moment we are born so you only ever need to do this test once in your lifetime and you will have the data on your gene variants for life.

Q. How long does DNA last on a Genetic Methylation swab?

As long as cheek swabs are returned in the buccal swab kit pouch, DNA samples remain viable for up to 6 months on a cotton swab.

Q: I currently have a cold / am taking certain medications - will this affect my methylation DNA results?

No. As we're testing the genetic code, which is fixed, the test is not impacted by illness, infections, medication, or supplements you take. Continue taking all your prescription medications and supplements as normal but please note them on your patient form at checkout. If your genetic methylation DNA results show you are already taking the correct supplements for your body we will be able to confirm this. Alternatively if your supplement regime is missing key nutrients we will add in or increase the dose of supplements to ensure optimal health.

Q. What happens to my DNA after methylation testing?

Each test is processed in the CLIA-certified laboratory. All physical samples are completely destroyed after 6 months. The client report, the data and the DNA sample is never (and will never be) shared with, or sold to third parties. Genotyping is performed using Agena MassArray and Taqman OpenArray platforms. In terms of privacy and security, each sample collection kit is marked with a unique barcode so no personal identifying information is stored. All genetic data is sent through a secure 256-bit encryption server.
