Despite the name, Biological Age doesn’t look at how many candles are on your birthday cake. It’s not your age, it’s your body’s aging at a cellular level. Cellular aging is the progress of cells dying or forgetting how to function. An easy example of this is skin wrinkles - skin cells lose their flexibility, and don’t recover from damage as quickly, so when the skin creases it begins to hold those creases instead of bouncing back. Many diseases occur at higher rates when you get older, because more and more of your cells aren’t functioning the way they should. The genes that should control that type of cell aren’t expressing like they used to. A higher Biological Age is correlated with a higher risk of developing age-related diseases (like Alzheimer’s Disease and Cancers). A lower Biological Age is correlated with reduced risk of disease and a longer lifespan.

Chronological Age is just how many years you’ve been alive.

Biological Age tracks how well your body has handled those years - how you’ve aged at a cellular level, over a lifetime.

Pace of Aging checks how fast you’re aging right now, like a speedometer for aging

By lowering your biological age you can target the mechanisms that effect the ageing process.

TruAge™ is an epigenetic test that starts with an at-home blood collection kit. Once your sample is sent back to our lab, we analyse patterns of DNA Methylation to identify your Biological AgeThe TruAge test looks at biological age measured by methylation, as research has shown it is the #1 most accurate and most predictive measure of future disease occurrence and frailty. As a result the predictive power makes it highly useful, both in research and in individual longevity/health tracking. TruAge Complete provides an objective measurement of ageing, and therefore risk of age-related disease, with over 850,000 CpG loci tested. The extensive epigenetic ageing reports and algorithms provide a comprehensive picture of biological ageing and health insights. A Methyl is a little molecule. A clump of them, called a Methyl Group, can stick onto our DNA, changing how the gene in that spot is expressed. Sometimes they turn a gene on or off entirely, and sometimes they just turn the brightness up or down a little bit. That process is called DNA Methylation. So, DNA Methylation is a type of Epigenetic marker, which changes which genes are being expressed, and how much they’re being expressed. DNA Methylation happens in response to daily habits like diet, exercise, sleep, stress, and much much more. About 40% of your DNA Methylation happens in response to the natural progression of time, or during key developmental stages in your gestation and childhood. However, that means the other 60% is Changeable - you can control it with your choices!

FAQ’s;

Q. How do you support me with my results?

In ADDITION to your lab report we provide the following options which are INCLUDED in the package prices;

A) Follow up personalised written report produced by our clinical team (click HERE for team info) highlighting dietary and lifestyle advice plus links to supplement protocols, specific doses and any further testing requirements included. We use the patient information you provide us at checkout along with your results to compile personalised action points for you.

OR

B) Follow up 30-minute video call to discuss your results and answer any questions you have. Once the lab has completed your results you will be sent these via email with a link to book a time and day online. You will also then be given the option to upgrade your 30-minute call to a 45-minute call for an additional £30 if you wish. During the call your practitioner will explain the results in more detail and what they mean for you. After your call you are sent a personalised list of supplements & the dose your practitioner advises with links to purchase from our supplements store. This is for your convenience. You are of course welcome to purchase supplements elsewhere. You will also be provided with a list of follow up tests should this be required plus a copy of your recorded zoom call which you can download and keep.

OR

C) Both Zoom call and written report with personalised next steps (Zoom call is first and written report follows).

Q. When will I get my results and personalised interpretation?

Once you have ordered via our website you will receive an email notification when your kit has been shipped to you via DHL. Please allow 3 working days for your kit to arrive in UK. You can then use the free return collection service from DHL. All other international orders are freepost return via courier. You will receive an email from the labs once your sample has been received back and your results should be ready in 3-4 weeks. You will not hear from us during the time your sample is being processed unless there is an issue with your sample. Please note that we will email lab results and advice to the email address provided at checkout. If you need to change this information it is your responsibility to contact info@mybodyfabulous.co.uk to request results are sent to an alternative email address.

Q. How do I take this test?

The test is a simple, finger prick blood spot test. See instructions HERE . Keep your blood spot card in the fridge until you are ready to ship back. Ideally arrange collection same day.

Q. Should I have any other tests alongside the epigentic age DNA test?

If possible, we recommend you do have a full blood test to check your current vitamin and mineral levels to optimise your DNA testing. We can offer a private full blood test HERE - this is available in the UK only and involves having a nurse come to your home / hotel to take your sample. Patients must be over 18 years old for this test. Results are provided separately to your DNA report. We offer a huge range of testing so when a member of our genetics team is assigned to review your results they may feel you would benefit from other specific testing such as methylation DNA, hormones (testosterone / estrogen, cortisol levels etc), microbiome , leaky gut analysis, food intolerance or mould / toxin testing. If any additional testing is required, this will be advised in your written report. *Note if you are adding multiple tests to your basket, you only need to complete the patient form once.

Q: What is TruAge PACE?

TruAge PACE is for patients who want to track the progress of recent lifestyle, environmental, and medical interventions. It is reponsive to intermediate change, often used in short intervals interventions to see what is working or not working for the patient.

It is often used once patients understand all baseline and specific age-related measurements included in the TruAge COMPLETE kit.

TruAge PACE covers the following concerns:
- Rate of biological aging: the test can estimate how many years the body is aging for each calendar year that passes, giving a clearer picture of the ageing process
- Telomere length analysis: Telomeres are repeated sequences of nucleotide sequences that tag the ends of all chromosomes. They are designed to prevent unpredictable changes in the DNA strand, keeping the genome stable providing insights into cellular ageing and potential longevity

Q: When should testing not be conducted?

Transient stress, such as a viral infection, can temporarily increase biological ageing. The lab does not recommend sample collection for individuals who have had a recent acute infection, surgery, trauma, or pregnancy. A person should wait until they have fully recovered from the infection before taking a biological age test. The exact duration of recovery may vary depending on the severity and type of infection, so it is advisable to consult with the healthcare practitioner in charge for guidance.

The Technical Bit

The laboratory extracts DNA, quantifies the DNA, and identifies methylated sites using bisulfite conversion. The DNA is then fragmented, amplified and resuspended. Illumina BeadChips, with silica beads, bind to specific DNA fragments where a single nucleotide is added. An antibody designed to bind to the stain attaches to that nucleotide. (red stain for the AT nucleotide pair, and green for the GC nucleotide.) Over 850,000 CpG sites (spots where methylation can occur) are scanned. The beta values of these CpGs, are then run through specialist algorithms to sort them and create an age value that reflects those patterns. This then provides the personal age, impact, and risk readouts presented in your report.
