Who should take the test?

Do you make sure that your diet includes not only carbohydrates and proteins, but also enough fats?

Omega-3 fatty acids in particular are thought to have positive effects on health: they can help lower blood pressure and blood lipids such as cholesterol. In addition, they reduce the risk of heart diseases, heart attacks or strokes. Furthermore, omega-3 fatty acids contribute to normal brain function and vision and may have a positive impact on neuronal diseases such as Alzheimer’s and depression. The most active omega-3 fatty acids are EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).

Omega-3 and omega-6 are polyunsaturated fatty acids. Since the body cannot produce these fatty acids itself, they must be supplied through the diet. However, our current diet contains an excess of omega-6 correspondingly less omega-3 can be converted. Therefore, not only the amount, but also the ratio of the two fatty acids to each other is important.

The test analyzes the following parameters:

Omega-6 fatty acids

Linoleic acid
Gamma-linolenic acid
Eicosadienoic acid
Eicosatrienoic acid (DGLA)
Arachidonic acid (AA)
Docosadienoic acid

Omega-3 fatty acids

Alpha-linolenic acid
Eicosatrienoic acid
Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
Docosapentaenoic acid
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)

Omega-3 index and omega-6/3 ratio

With our omega-3 test you can find out whether there is a sufficient supply of omega-6 fatty acids and omega-3 fatty acids and whether there is a balanced ratio between them. The measured omega-3 index shows you the proportion of omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA to the total fatty acid content of your red blood cells and can be interpreted as a risk marker for the cardiovascular system

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Disturbances of the eyesight

  • Sensitivity to light

  • Poor wound healing

  • Disturbance of blood clotting

  • Hair loss

  • Straw-like hair

How does it work?

You collect the sample at home, send it back to us and we will send you your result with information about your omega-3 level. Results take around 2 weeks and you will find out whether your values are within the normal range or whether there is a deficiency. In addition, you will receive individualised nutritional recommendations – tailored to your needs. Our health team will provide advice on your results with support on increasing or decreasing levels as appropriate.
